How To Fix A Clogged Sink?

  • Start by using a plunger. Insert the plunger over the drain and press down to create a vacuum seal. Then, pump the plunger up and down several times before lifting it off the drain. Check to see if the water is draining. If it’s still clogged, move on to the next step.
  • Empty the sink of all remaining water. Pour the water out and wipe clean with a towel.
  • Unscrew the aerator from the faucet, if it is screwed on tightly and firmly, using a wrench or pliers (make sure not to nick or damage any pipes). If there is an aerator knob underneath, remove that as well. Keep turning until the screen in the top of your faucet is visible before you continue to screw it back onto your faucet head. Make sure that you screw in properly so that it’s tight enough not to fall off or loosen.

Once you have the top of the faucet visible, make sure that you align the threads between the faucet and the faucet head. Use a wrench to tighten the connection securely, making sure not to over-tighten it. Once the connection is secure, you can turn on the water to test for any leaks before using it.

Use strainers to catch debris before it goes down the drain, dispose of grease properly, don’t pour it or oil down the drain, and run hot water regularly to ensure debris is flushed out before it can gather.
Can I unclog my kitchen drain myself?
Yes, with a plunger or a drain snake. If you experience success with your home repair, you’ll need to contact a plumber.
How long does it take to fix a clogged kitchen drain?
It depends on the severity of the clog, but most clogged drain issues can be resolved within an hour.
